A Weekend of Highs and Lows for Alfie Mair at PFI

The PFI Winter Cup was another event filled with challenges and strong performances for Alfie Mair. Despite setbacks, he showed impressive pace and determination throughout the weekend, fighting his way through the Pre-Final and Final.

Qualifying – A Tough Break for Alfie Mair

After rapid practice times, expectations were high for qualifying. However, disaster struck just a few laps in—the engine cut out and wouldn’t restart. With only 2.5 laps completed, Alfie was unable to set a time, forcing him to start from the back. Frustratingly, the engine restarted the moment the mechanic reached him after the session.

Pre-Final – The Fight Back at PFI

Determined to recover, Alfie Mair delivered an incredible drive in the Pre-Final, climbing from the back of the grid to P13. Unfortunately, a nose cone penalty dropped him to P16 for the Final.

Final – A Fast Start, Then a Tough Lesson

Lining up P16, Alfie made an explosive start, moving to P8 on the first lap and up to P5 by lap two. His pace was strong, and he quickly climbed to P3.

However, another setback struck—an issue with the engine flap. Unable to keep it in place, Alfie became distracted, unable to monitor his engine temperature. This allowed the chasing pack to catch up, and in the heat of the moment, his focus faded. Instead of battling back, he lost momentum, eventually dropping down the order.

A Learning Experience for Alfie Mair

Every race is a learning opportunity, and this weekend was no different. Alfie is now at the stage where he must make his own racing decisions, and this experience will help him develop the resilience needed at this level. His pace and ability are unquestionable, and the focus now shifts to mental strength and race management.

A challenging but valuable weekend, with many lessons to take forward into the next race.
